Message from the Superintendent
August 8, 2020
Dear Mercedes ISD Parents and Students,
We hope that our families are doing well and are excited to begin the 2020-2021 school year. We would like to advise our parents and students that our MISD Administration has given much thought and consideration to the start of the school year for students. In order to ensure that our students are ready for remote instruction and our teachers are well prepared with their remote lessons, we have decided to move the student start date to August 31st. Mercedes ISD is committed to ensuring that students have home access to online instructional materials during the upcoming initial weeks of remote instruction and throughout the 2020-2021 school year. To meet this goal, MISD is working with the Texas Education Agency to provide Internet access to all Texas students through Operation Connectivity. Through this TEA led program, MISD has requested mobile Internet devices, or hotspots, for student households lacking Internet access in order to take full advantage of remote instruction. Additionally, MISD will be providing Chromebooks for households that do not have access to a computer for dedicated e-learning.
MISD is dedicated to providing equitable access to online instructional materials and e-learning during this difficult time. Our Superintendent of Schools, Mrs. Carolyn Mendiola, School Board trustees, teachers, and staff are committed to ensuring our students are given the best opportunities to become confident, innovative leaders. We look forward to seeing our students succeed in the upcoming school year and beyond.
