For my exhibition, I am going to exhibit 8 artworks of mine. By presenting the works, I hope to achieve an emotional connection and mindful impact to the audience itself. All of the artwork has meaningful pieces and personal mind of myself and I hope that by seeing the artworks, the audience would gain a better understanding of myself and even have an indirect relationship to the body of works. For all of my artworks, I have an overall theme of Emotions. Through my art pieces, I aim to convey the different emotions which I’ve felt as a human being. It consists of both negative and positive emotions since I want to show that as a human, life isn’t always steady. Therefore surely it will affect our emotions and it is normal to undergo emotional distress and satisfaction. The vision for presenting this body of work is to show the state of being human particularly the ability to feel.
All of the issues or ideas that are explored in this exhibition came from my own personal experience. Though in terms of the art style, mediums and formal qualities, it is inspired by many different artists. I personally have been using expressionist and abstract style ever since I discovered art. I found myself to have a very distinct art style from others and I used to feel insecure about it, but now I realized that it is what differs me from others.I explored the artists and their artwork through several media such as Pinterest, Instagram, and also some art books which I have at home. Though most of the artists which I was inspired by used expressionism style in their artwork. The expressionism style correlates well with my overall theme since the aim of all of my topics and overall theme is to express feelings. Whereas for the media and material used, it is quite diverse. Canvas has to be my favorite medium where I have three of my artworks with it, but I play with mixed media quite a lot too. As for the mix media, I mostly made use of materials which are available at my home such as newspapers and such so that I could recycle them as well. Other than that, I’ve tried printmaking with the linocut technique and charcoal/ color pencil on black paper as well. Those are a very new technique which is taught together in class by my art teacher as well. It has been more than a decade and a half since I’ve laid my foot in this world where my mental capacity has been encountering a series of emotional rollercoasters. It influences the state of my mind and has been a huge part of my life, therefore I chose Emotions as my overall theme for my exhibition. Based on my theme, it is quite obvious that the topics and the meaning behind all of my artworks would be based on my personal experience. Most of the specific experiences are quite private but it is safe to say that I’ve encountered many downfalls in my life, but there are many delightful times as well. I am a type of person who has a strong feeling where it is my biggest strength and weakness as well. In this exhibition, my strength and weakness in handling my emotions would be very visible.
I exhibit my artworks in a quite simple way. The large body of works would be placed on the back so that it wont block my smaller works. If I put the large ones at the front, I’m afraid that it will overshadow my other artworks, where I want each artwork to gain similar attention since they all have equal importance to me. I’ll place the smaller artworks in front and create a little space from the back so that the audience would be able to circulate around the works in front and have a deep sight of all of my artworks. From all of my works which I’ve selected for exhibition, I intend the audience to relate to my artworks and automatically get insight of the topic and meaning which I tried to project just by looking and examining it.
