In this elective class, the goal is to help students develop a positive attitude and mindset towards physical fitness that they will carry into their adulthood. We aim to create a solid foundation for lifelong health and fitness. By the end of the year, students will be able to recognize the value of physical activity for health, personal enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and social interaction.
About me
My name is Rachel Mills, and this is my fifth year of teaching! I love the challenge of teaching and being a part of a young person's growth. As a teacher, I make it my responsibility to make sure each student is seen and heard, given the tools they need to succeed, and leave my classroom each day with more than when they entered.
This will be my third year coaching our middle school Cross-Country team, as well as our spring club of Track & Field. Last season, we proudly achieved our goal of qualifying both the girls' and boys' Cross-Country teams for the State Championships! At the Lake County District meet, the girls’ team secured an impressive 3rd place finish, while the boys’ team claimed 2nd out of the 13 teams from the district. We had four athletes individually make the top 20 at States, one of them achieving 3rd place overall! Additionally, we had a standout Track & Field athlete qualify for the State Championship in the long jump, where he placed 20th overall in the entire state of Florida!
My first two years of teaching were in 7th grade ELA, but I jumped at the chance to teach PE and coach. I had a negative experience in middle school PE, so it's always been sort of a dream of mine to be a positive light for kids in PE. Not everyone has a love for sports or is naturally athletic, but my goal is to make sure each kid is smiling when they leave my class!
I have lived in a few cool places as a military spouse, but six years ago, my husband retired from the Air Force, and we planted our roots here in Central Florida. I have three children: one adult son, my daughter is a freshman at South Lake, and my youngest son is in 6th grade here at MCS! We love traveling as a family and being adventurous.
