72 hours in 1 school year - known as Yearly Habitual Truancy
42 hours in one school month - known as Monthly Habitual Truancy
30 consecutive hours - known as Consecutive Habitual Truancy
Notification
If your student meets any of the above requirements, then the following will happen:
The Minford Local Schools Attendance Officer will notify the Scioto County Truant Officer in writing of the infraction.
The Scioto County Truant Officer will send you a letter that includes a date and time to meet with him and the Minford Local Schools Attendance Officer at Minford Local Schools for an Absence Intervention Team Meeting.
The Scioto County Truant Officer may visit your home in addition to or in lieu of the letter.
The document to the left (or above depending on your view) is what we use to notify the Scioto County Truancy Office at the South Central Ohio Educational Service Center about your child's truancy.
Absence Intervention Team Meeting
Here is what you can expect in the Absence Intervention Team Meeting:
You will be given a friendly greeting by the Minford Local Schools Attendance Officer who will introduce you to the Scioto County Truant Officer.
The reason for the meeting will be explained (which threshold the students crossed in unexcused hours - 72, 42 or 30).
We will verify your name, address and phone number.
The parents will be asked to provide reasons for the unexcused absences. Those reasons will be record at the bottom of the 1st page.
A plan will be put into place that will outline the next steps if unexcused absences persist. The plan will be written on the 2nd page.
The parents will be asked to sign the bottom of the 2nd page.
The meeting will conclude in a friendly manner.
The pages to the left (or above depending on your view) are part of a 2-page document that governs our Absence Intervention Team Meeting.
The parents will be asked to sign the 2nd page at the bottom at the conclusion of the meeting.
This document will follow the student to court if truancy charges become necessary in the future.
Violation of Absence Intervention Team Plan
If a violation of the AIT Plan occurs (subsequent unexcused absences), then the following actions will take place:
The Minford Local Schools Attendance Officer will contact the Scioto County Truancy Office and request charges be filed against the student (if old enough) and the parents for Failure to Send.
The Scioto County Truant Officer will file the charges in Scioto County Juvenile Court.
The Scioto County Juvenile Court will accept or deny the charges. If accepted, the court will contact the parents in some fashion to advise of a court date.
