Canvas is replacing Google Classroom at Mineola ISD this year and will be used by every MISD student whether they are in face-to-face instruction or virtual instruction.
HOW DO STUDENTS ACCESS CANVAS?
Students will access Canvas by going to mineolaisd.instructure.com and logging in with their Google Account and password. School email addresses can be retrieved in Skyward. Your student's password will be “jackets” plus their lunch number". Example: jackets12345
DO ALL PARENTS NEED A CANVAS ACCOUNT?
Yes. Since all MISD students will be using Canvas, you will be able to follow your student's work by accessing their account with the parent account.
HOW CAN I CREATE A PARENT ACCOUNT FOR CANVAS?
First, retrieve the your student's pairing code:
Step 1: Have your student log into Canvas at mineolaisd.instructure.com using Safari or Chrome. (A pairing code cannot be generated in the Canvas app.)
Step 2: After your student logs in, they need to click on “Account” and “Settings”. In Settings, on the right of the page, there will be a “Pair with Observer” button. Click on that button.
Step 3: Copy the pairing code that appears.
Step 4: Have your student log out of their Canvas account.
Next, create your Canvas parent account and add the code:
Step 1: Go to mineolaisd.instructure.com/login/canvas
Step 2: Start a new account by selecting: "Parent of a Canvas User? Click Here For an Account”
Step 3: Enter your information and paste in the pairing code generated from your student's account. Select "Start Participating”.
Step 4: Add any additional students in your household by getting their individual pairing code from their student account. Then in your parent Canvas account, select Account, then Settings, then Observing. There you'll see a +Student button where you can add additional students.
***Note: After you create your parent account and pair it with your student(s), you can use the Canvas Parent App.***
