The Whippets opened their season taking on A #7 Grand Island on the Islanders home turf. Grand Island was looking for revenge after Minden won last year's season opener 41-33. Minden's team looks much different this year however, having lost 7 starters to graduation, 1 to a move out-of-state, and another out with injury. Minden fielded a team of two freshman and 5 sophomores tonight, and for the most part looked like the young team they are as they fell 74-5. The lone win for the whippets came from star sophomore Keira Crane, who bumped up to 125 for the dual and still outscored her opponent 18-1 in just over 3 minutes time. There were many positive moments however and the coaches are confident this is a team that can grow quickly over the next two months. Freshman and JV wrestlers hit the road tomorrow morning for the Southwest Girls Invite, and then everyone will be wrestling on Saturday and the Kearney High Invite. Buckle up!
