Minden girls closed the first half of the season with the prestigious Flatwater Fracas, featuring some of the top girls dual teams in the state. Over the course of two days, the girls finished in fourth place, going 5-2 overall.
On day 1, B#1 Minden defeated B#6 Wood River for the second week in a row, this time by a score of 45-20. Myka Petersen, Maliyah Melroy, B#6 Isabel Serrano, and B#4 Keira Crane all picked up wins in their matches, while 4 other Whippets picked up wins by forfeit.
Minden followed that performance with a 48-21 victory over B#4 Conestoga. B#10 Cheyenne Vahl, Isabel Serrano, and Myia Hofaker all picked up wins in addition to 5 other wins by forfeit. Myka Petersen nearly pulled off the upset in her match against B#9 Zimmerman, losing on a last second takedown.
The third dual of day one matched up Minden vs. Seward. In a tight, strategic battle, Minden prevailed 35-33. A notable performance in that dual came from Myia Hofaker, who won by technical fall 17-0 and in the process picked up her 50th career nearfall.
Minden closed day one against A#1 Norfolk and finally ran into a team that they could not overcome, losing 3-75. Keira Crane picked up a decision over A#8 Hoff in that one 6-2.
On day 2, Minden opened the day against Grand Island JV, cruising to a 61-6 victory and winning 11 of the 12 contested matches. Next up it was a Highway 10 battle against #6 Kearney. The girls stepped up big in this dual, with Aubree Bules clinching it with a gutty 13-6 decision. That moved Minden into the third place dual against A#2 Grand Island Senior High, who the whippets defeated on opening night. Minden wasn't quite as healthy in this one to be able to compete, giving up 6 forfeits and dropping the dual 21-58 to finish in fourth place ahead of #2 Westside and #4 Northwest.
Overall the whippets were led by B#1 Aliena Osterbuhr, who went 6-1 and scored 36 team points, and Keira Crane, who also went 6-1 and scored 33 team points.
The team will rest and heal up over the 5 day moratorium before getting back onto the mat to prepare for the second half of the season. They look forward to getting those competitions underway, starting with a dual at Aurora January 7th.
