Minden 9/JV takes second at Roughrider Invite
A combination of freshmen, junior varsity, and varsity wrestlers battled their way to a second place finish at the Roughrider Invitational Friday at Southwest High School. Even though many of our wrestlers were junior varsity, this was still a varsity tournament and we were facing the best of the other schools. Even without 6 of the varsity wrestlers, the 9/JV squad finished with 148 points, just 2 points behind #4 Southwest. Nine whippets earned medals with top-4 finishes, and every single wrestler won at least one match. The lady whippets were led by Keira Crane, who knocked off #6 Holmes in the finals in dominating fashion with what we call a "tech pin" meaning Keira had secured the victory by technical fall, but continued action in the same sequence allowed Keira to get the fall and the extra bonus points that come with it. Trinity Carr was another lady whippet that turned in a fantastic performance, earning the silver medal at 135 and notching four wins by fall. Maliyah Melroy similarly scored four falls to finish 4th in her bracket.
The varsity squad closes the weekend at the Kearney Invite, which promises to be a tough and fantastic tournament like last year. Then on Thursday, December 12th the whippets will have their final home competition of the season as they take on #10 Wood River.
