The lady whippet wrestling team traveled to Western Colorado University in Gunnison, Colorado for the Rocky Mountain Wrestling Camp. 21 teams from Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California came together for four days of technique and competition. Many of those states have had girls wrestling for up to 13 years, much more than the 3 years the sport has been sanctioned in Nebraska.
Ten lady whippets competed and grew closer as a team during their time, and all of them significantly improved over the course of camp. Special individual shoutouts go to Aliena Osterbuhr and Keira Crane. Aliena, a senior, led the team with 11 wins while wrestling multiple All-Americans and state medalists. Freshman Keira Crane might have outdone her, however, going 9-3 and defeating two state champions by scores of 11-2 and 9-5. All three of her losses came while bumped up to 105 pounds, and she went undefeated at her normal weight class of 100 pounds, making her the #1 100 pounder in the entire camp.
Everyone learned from their wins, losses, and technique sessions and we are excited to continue working hard in the weight room and open mats, with a focus on our home opener December 5th against Grand Island.
