Osterbuhr wins loaded field to lead Minden to fifth place finish

With less than a month to go in the season, Aliena Osterbuhr appears ready for the state tournament. She cruised through a bracket with state qualifiers, medalists, and even a freestyle state champion to claim the 120 pound title. All of her pins occurred in the first period, including falls over #15 Hofeling and #6 Phelps. She improved her record to 27-2, with her only losses coming to a state finalist and a Kansas state champion.

Minden had one other finalist, Xitlali Nunez, in the 100 pound weight class. Xitlali recorded two quick falls to reach the finals, including a dominating victory over #8 Beed of Aurora before falling to #7 Perdue by decision. This brought her record to 19-9 and she has quietly positioned herself well to make some noise in the postseason.

Closing out the medals for Minden were Myia Hofaker (6th), Aubree Bules (4th), Trinity Carr (4th), Isabel Serrano (6th), and Cheyenne Vahl (5th). Minden Girls finished 5th place as a team, behind #2 Grand Island, host Lexington, Wood River, and #15 Beatrice.

Minden has one more week of the regular season, and will travel to Aurora for a boys and girls dual Thursday night before participating in the NSWCA Girls State Dual Tournament on Friday and then sending the junior varsity to the Amherst Invitational on Saturday.
