In a rescheduled triangular, the lady Whippets hosted the McCook Bison and Lexington Minutemaids in home dual action. The lady Whippets went 2-0 on the night, hounding McCook 60-18 before winning a wild dual over Lexington.
McCook was shorthanded due to injuries, giving up 10 forfeits out of the 14 weight classes. Cassie Bernshausen, Trinity Carr, and Emma Goodrich all lost by fall.
The featured dual between Minden and Lexington was as advertised, and the whippets came out on top in a back-and-forth affair. Lexington jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead, including an upset major decision over Minden's #13 Myia Hofaker. Minden quickly answered back with a win by forfeit by Aliena Osterbuhr and a win by fall from Aubree Bules to go up 12-10. The teams would then trade points the remainder of the dual. Addison Brown won a double overtime match 8-7, continuing Minden's success in overtime matches to 7-1 all time. Myka Petersen then battled in a 3-2 loss to a state qualifier. Trinity Carr then recorded a pin at 140, and Minden was open at 145 to make the team score 21-18 Minden. Maliyah Melroy stepped up and got the fall at 155 and Minden gave up another open at 155 to make it 27-25. Isabel Serrano then pinned #6 Furgison of Lexington, the second win by fall Serrano has recorded over Furgison this year and the 25th pin of her career. After a loss by fall from Cheyenne Vahl, Xitlali Nunez clinched the dual for the dawgs in the match of the night. Both wrestlers had their chances and both spent considerable time fighting off a pin, and it was Xitlali who came through victorious, earning a pin in the third period while winning the match 20-13. Ashlyn Zerr then lost by fall, but it was no matter as the lady Whippets defeated Lexington for the second time this year 39-37.
The lady Whippets are home again on Thursday in the C.L. Jones Middle School gymnasium as the boys and girls teams take on Central City. The girls will open the action at 6pm.
