The girls wrestling team was in action for the third time in three days, this time travelling to Kearney for the first ever Kearney High Girls Invitational. This tournament featured 10 teams from across the state, with most of the teams coming from the largest metro areas in the state. It was run side-by-side with the Kearney High Boys Invitational, which is the premier Class A tournament of the weekend for the boys. It was a great early-season test for our girls against teams we normally do not get to see!
Minden finished in 4th place with 131 points, 36 points behind champion Lexington, with every girl contributing team points. The day was highlighted by Aliena Osterbuhr, who pinned her way to a championship and notched her 100th career takedown, already the school record holder in that category. In total Minden had 8 medalists.Â
Individual results:
Xitlali Nunez went 2-2 to finish as a 3rd place medalist. Xitlali earned the first two varsity pins of her career!
Myia Hofaker went 4-1 to finish in 2nd place. Myia is getting closer to her 50th career win, something only two Minden girls wrestlers (Savannah Koch and Aliena Osterbuhr) have done.
Aliena Osterbuhr went 4-0 with 4 falls to be crowned CHAMPION! Aliena also received votes to be the tournament's Outstanding Girl Wrestler, which eventually went to Lincoln East's Mileena Notaro.
Aubree Bules went 2-2 and finished in 4th place. Just like Xitlali, Aubree earned the first two pins of her career!
Myka Petersen went 0-4 and finished in 8th. Myka ran into a tough tournament but still pushed state qualifier Solis of Lexington deep into the second period.
Addison Brown went 1-2 to secure 5th place. Addison bumped up to 140 for this tournament and still is a machine getting out from bottom.
Madeline Kring went 1-2 to finish 4th. Madeline earned the first win of her career after missing last season due to injury.
Trinity Carr went 1-2 and was a 4th place medalist. Trinity filled in occasionally on varsity last year, but earned her first varsity pin in the tournament!
Maliyah Melroy went 0-3 and ended up in 7th place in a bracket that featured a state qualifier and double-digit-match-winners from last year.
Isabel Serrano went 3-1 to finish in 3rd and is now the sixth-winningest wrestler in program history.
Cheyenne Vahl went 4-1 to finish in 2nd and continues her tear to begin the season. Her only losses so far this year are to two state qualifiers and one state finalist.
