This site outlines how to implement the Mimi Inside SDK, both from a technical standpoint, but also the factors which you should consider when implementing. Because hearing and sound are complex topics, understanding why you’re implementing which mode can greatly benefit your users.

Mimi Hearing Technologies GmbH

At Mimi we’re working on technology that enables users to have the best possible listening experience. Our unique patent pending sound processing has been developed by hearing scientists and music engineers. The technology behind Mimi is powered by our deep understanding of how people hear and what they don’t hear anymore. We gained this knowledge by creating the #1 Hearing Test for iOS and by testing more than half a million people to date.

Mimi’s technology is medically certified (CE) in the EU and currently available in two Apps for iOS - Mimi Music and Mimi Hearing Test - and as the Mimi Inside SDK.

The Mimi Inside SDK

Mimi Inside is a Software Development Kit (SDK) that personalizes audio to the hearing ability of the individual user. It has two main modes that allow you and your users to choose the level of personalization they’re willing to invest in:

Personalization based on demographic data:

Hearing naturally degrades as we grow older, following a predictable pattern across the general population. That’s how we can provide a first order personalization based on the age and biological sex of listeners.

Personalization based on hearing profile:

Listeners can set up their Mimi profile in our accompanying apps, and connect it with the SDK via common login credentials. The profile consists of an accurate audiogram of the listener, allowing us to personalize audio for their specific hearing profile.

Why is personalized audio important?

Not everybody hears perfectly

  • As with every part of our body, hearing ability also naturally gets worse. This starts to become noticeable for people around their 40’s, and can already have minor effects as early as 20.
  • Exposure to noise, specifically prolonged exposure to music at high volumes, has a wearing effect on the ear. Alarmingly, the number of cases of hearing loss being attributed to this particular type of exposure is rising in younger listeners - even teenagers.
  • Specific causes, like trauma or genetic disposition can also cause, or make individuals more susceptible to hearing loss.

Yet, all audio is created similarly

Audio is created to suit a broad listener base, for multiple situations, and to sound good on every device. It is, however, not optimized for the individual listener. Because different people have different needs, audio content is often not enjoyed to its full potential.

This is not a failure of the audio industry, but rather a failure of technology. Until now it has been impossible to personalize audio to every individual listener, which is why we offer the best alternative. Adding knowledge about the listener gives you the possibility to truly tailor the sound experience so that it can be enjoyed by everyone, the way it was meant to be heard.

With a major part of society experiencing some form of hearing loss, it is a problem that we can ignore no longer. Mimi understands hearing loss like no other company and therefore can intelligently processes audio to fit your individual customers’ needs.
