POSITION:  WIC Nutrition Program High School Intern

LOCATION:  SSCHC

PAY:  $13/hr

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The Sixteenth Street Community Health Centers is hiring a high school intern to work alongside our staff to enrich the appointment experience for our WIC Program participants.  The WIC Nutrition Intern will perform duties related to program enrollment and participation and will work with WIC to accomplish this work.  Interns will gain work experience and learn about nutrition in childhood and pregnancy, and learn how to perform basic clinical health assessment under supervision of WIC Nutritionists. Interns will be expected to:

 

1.      Maintain a clean and orderly clinic and work space

2.      Greet participants and monitor clinic flow

3.      Perform basic clerical duties such as scanning, making copies and faxing documents

4.      Obtain heights, weights and hemoglobin testing for program participants

5.      Assist with conducting nutrition education

6.      Support staff with language interpretation if applicable

7.      Provide technical assistance for program participants who wish to use electronic means of program participation

8.      Create informational materials under the guidance of Nutrition Staff such as bulletin board displays, flyers and social media posts

9.      Treat staff and participants with respect

10.  Follow universal safety precautions

11.  Other duties as assigned

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Applicants ages 17-18, especially those interested in wellness, or working with the community or in healthcare are encouraged to apply for this paid internship. Interns will work up to 140 hours over the course of 10-16 weeks. No prior work experience necessary but applicant should have:

 

 

 

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Position required manual dexterity for operating standard office equipment.  Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.  Must be physically able to lift, carry and handle equipment, supplies, program materials and small children. 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:


Must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to indoor office/clinic conditions in an urban environment such as communicable diseases, noise, blood, blood borne diseases, and physical injury.  Must be able to comply with CDC Universal Precautions when indicated.  The employee must be able to comply with the Sixteenth Street Community Health Center TB Control Plan including PPD skin testing as required. 

 

LINES OF SUPERVISION:

 

The Intern reports directly to the WIC Supervisor
