English III focuses on the critical and historical study of American literature, with a goal of enhancing students’ understanding of American culture through the study of American literature. Study in this course focuses on critical reading and writing skills, Standard English usage, vocabulary acquisition, and oral interpretation fluency. The study of literature includes fiction –novels and short stories – drama, poetry, and essays. Writing instruction is centered on preparing students to write a literary research paper, which is required of all students.
