June News from...

Millbrook Families...

It is unbelievable to think that June is just around the corner! Everyone in our educational community has worked so hard this year to ensure our students had the best experience possible. The end of the year brings so many incredible experiences for our students. In June, our building is constantly filled with the celebration of our students. We encourage you to join us in recognizing  all of the hard work your child has accomplished! Whether it be award ceremonies, field days, informational presentations, summative assessments or our 8th Grade Moving Up Ceremony; we sure have A LOT to look forward, GO BLAZERS!

Attendance, lateness, and student sign-outs will be handled in the main office. Call 677-4210, x3129 to report an absence as soon as possible in the morning. An email communication to to our attendance office is an acceptable and legal form of communication: mms.attendance@millbrookcsd.org  . Please call the main office in the case of an extended absence (two or more days) so that we are aware. To prevent your child from becoming overwhelmed by catching up on assignments, please be sure that  work is done and submitted in a timely fashion so long as your child is well enough to complete it.

Academic Awards Ceremony Friday June 14, 2024 @ 8am

We are excited to honor our 2024 Academic Award recipients on Friday June 14, 2024 at 8am. All students who will be receiving an award have been sent  a letter in the mail letting them know. The upper parking lot will be open for parking and we would ask that you enter the building through the bottom entrance by the auditorium.

End of the Year Summative Assessments in World Language 8 and Science 6/7 & SS 6/7/8

It is important that we have cumnulitive information on everything we have learned in our year long courses in World Language, Math, English, Social Studies and Science. In ELA, Math, & Science 8 we utilize NYS Testing, and our grade level assignments, to gauge our students' progress. At the end of the year, we assess our students placement in World Language, Social Studies and Science 6/7 as their summative measure during the school day.  These assessments are aligned with NY state standards and give us a world of information and data about our students’ learning. Any student who does not take World Language will be in a seperate location; please bring something to read during this time.

MMS Field Day 6/25 (Rain date 6/26)

Our teachers teams are working to create a fun way to celebrate our teams to close out the year! All students will be having fun in the sun (hopefully) to culminate the school year. Teachers of these teams will share more specifics as the time gets closer with their students. We will run this rain or shine (unless conditions are unsafe). Please dress accordingly.

Moving up Ceremony

Moving Up Ceremony will take place on Thursday, June 26th at 6:30 pm in the HS Auditorium. As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Please begin to clean out your locker!

We have the noticed the trend at MMS recently of students leaving their backpacks and personal items in undesignated areas in the building. Every student at MMS has been issued a locker with a lock to keep their items safe throughout the school day. We made an annoucnement and reminded students of the expectation of keeping their items safe throughout the school day.  All empty lockers are safely closed using zip ties that should not be removed by students. Please remind your students to utilize their locker (and never share their combination) and always keep their items safely locked away inside.

Our lost and found bins are overflowing. We will be making announcements all week prior to the end of the school year  for students who have lost their belongings to come to the cafeteria and take a look. Please encourage your students to take a look if they have lost something. We will be boxing up the clothes after school gets out for the summer to take to donation.

All library books are now due back in the library.

Overdue notices have been distributed to students in their Homebase.
Please be sure your students have returned their books and materials
to the school library.

Lights, Camera, Action for the Drama Club

The drama club has been playing games where the actors have only seconds to form a tableaux. A tableaux is a still moment in time where the actors must tell a story. We want the actors to use different facial expressions, body language, heights, and body positions to give the audience a hint as to what the different characters are and what their relationships are to each other. The kids had a lot of fun with this one and I thought these photos might be fun for families to get a glimpse at some of the activities we have been doing in Drama Club.
