Happy November! It’s hard to believe that we are already entering the holiday season and end of the 1st Quarter is on November 6th. With the school year in full swing, here are some things to keep in mind for the month ahead.
First-quarter report cards will be available to families on SchoolTool beginning November 14th. During Parent-Teacher Conferences (11/21 & 11/22) the classroom teacher will review with you the report card, as well as how the school year is progressing thus far for your child.
With winter weather approaching, please ensure that your child comes to school with appropriate clothing for colder weather. We will continue to have outdoor recess whenever possible, so warm coats, hats, and gloves are a must!
We especially appreciate everyone’s efforts to avoid taking extra days off during the Thanksgiving holiday. Just a few missed days here and there, even if they’re excused absences, can add up to too much lost learning time and leave your child behind in school. This is as true in kindergarten as it is in high school.
Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership. I look forward to a wonderful November filled with learning and growth. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Turkey is in a bit of trouble. The kind of trouble where it’s almost Thanksgiving . . . and you’re the main course. But Turkey has an idea--what if he doesn’t look like a turkey? What if he looks like another animal instead? Turkey comes up with the perfect disguise to make this Thanksgiving the best ever!
Some themes in this story relate to problem-solving and perseverance!
Some questions to ask while reading this story:
- Why is Turkey in trouble? What do you think his idea will be?
- Why does Turkey keep changing his disguises?
- What disguise will Turkey have next?
- How do you think Turkey feels when Farmer Jake comes looking for him?
- What do you think Turkey’s “one more idea” will be?
- Why was this Thanksgiving Turkey’s best Thanksgiving ever?

Each school year a sample of public-school districts are selected to participate in Student Weight Status Category Reporting in accordance with New York State Education Law sections 903 and 904. This school year, Millbrook Central School District has been selected to report this data to the New York State Department of Health. This information is used by health officials to design programs supporting healthy lifestyles for our children.
Weight status category information is retrieved from the health examination forms collected the prior school year. MCSD will be reporting the weight status category information of our Kindergarten, 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th, and 12th grade students (last year’s Pre-K, 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, and 11th grade students). Only summary information is sent without any specific identifying factors included (your child’s name, date of birth, etc. will not be included in the submitted survey information). You may choose not to have your child’s weight status category information included in the summary data submitted to the department of health.
If you do not wish to have your child’s weight status category information included as part of this year’s survey, please contact your student’s School Nurse by telephone or email before December 16, 2024. Please note, if we do not hear from you prior to December 16, 2024, your child’s information will be included in the survey.
