Greetings Families,
As we close out the 2023-2024 school year and head into summer break, I hope you all find time to relax, recharge, and create wonderful memories. Summer is a time for adventure, exploration, and quality time with loved ones. Whether you’re traveling to new places, enjoying the great outdoors, or simply savoring the simple pleasures of home, I wish you all a season filled with joy and happiness.
Go Blazers!

Summer is meant for adventure taking and memory making! This summer, I welcome students to send me postcards keeping me 'posted' on all the fun they are having! For every postcard received, I will send a letter in return! Consider me your Principal Pen Pal!
Send any postcards to: Mrs. Alicia O'Connell

Field Day Fun!
Studies show that children who do not read over the summer will lose at least two months of reading development. This is often referred to as 'the summer slide.' Summer reading is very important for maintaining your child’s current grade level skills. But don’t worry, I’m here to help!
I welcome the return of another Elm Drive’s Summer Reading Race to 100 Challenge. The goal is for students to read at least 100 books this summer! For our youngest Blazers, books may be read aloud. There is a chart below, however students will each be sent home with a printed copy. Numbers can be crossed out to keep track of the number of books read. Any student who accepts this challenge and reads 100 books will be invited to a “Popsicles with the Principal” event on Thursday, August 29th at 12:30pm in the Elm Drive All Purpose Room. All that is needed to enter is your reading chart that is signed by a parent or guardian. In addition to popsicles, there will be some fun reading related games and activities for students to enjoy.
Our First Grade students enjoyed a trip Washing Park. They enjoyed a day of outdoor fun with a special visit from the Two by Two Zoo!
Our Second Graders had a blast at their end of school year celebration. A performance from Marco the Magician made it a memorable and magical experience! A huge thank you to the PTO for funding the pizza party and visit from the Frozen Caboose!
I am grateful to have been able to watch you all grow over the past two years. Sending you off to Alden Place is bittersweet, but I know all of the staff here at Elm Drive has prepared you for greatness next year and beyond!
Love,
Mrs. O'Connell
A big thank you to Ms. Barnes and Ms. Schmid for this amazing art collaboration!
