What can you do with this machine? Plenty. There are millions of crafting and creating ideas on blogs, Pinterest or anything from your imagination.
This machine can cut any material you throw at it: fabric, felt, silk, paper, vinyl, wood, acrylic and literally hundreds more. If you have an idea that involves cutting this machine is going to make your crafting a lot easier.
Launch Cricut Design Space on the library computer. Click 'New Project'.
When you wish to create a file from scratch, convert an image, or edit something you can use a plethora of options when it comes to the Cricut machine. Primarily you will be working with a .svg file extensions (An extension is a file type, much like a .jpg .pdf .docx, etc) as this is the file type you will need to submit to the Cricut machine to create your product. You can of course convert png, jpg, pdf, and so on into a .svg file for your final product, so don’t worry if it's not the correct file before editing.
NOTE: MIRROR YOUR DESIGN. your design will look backwards once you transfer it.
Start by clicking on the upload icon on the left side of your canvas then clicking Upload image on the next page.
Once you upload your image, it will give you an option as to how you want to edit your image. Click on an option then at the bottom right click continue.
As seen below you can edit your download as to what you want to be printed.
This will only cut the outline of what you are printing. This helps with letters, shapes, silluettes, etc.
With Print and cut, you can print out the image you need with a printer, then you can cut with a cricut machine later.
Once you're happy with the design, you need to figure out the line type. Do you want to draw lines? Cut them? Print on the color printer and then cut in the cricut? Don't forget to attach or merge layers if you need them to stay together when you cut/print. The type of material you use will determine the type of Mat you will need.
Click 'Make it'. The software automatically arranges the design, so you may have to clock and drag it around to make it sit the way you want it to appear. Then you click Continue. It will then ask what kind of material, here you can let the software know the amount of pressure the cricut can use.
Stick the cutting material to the sticky mat, and follow the prompts in the software to check you have the correct cutting/drawing tool installed, and then to load the mat.
NOTE: Make sure the cricut is pulled forward so the mat has space at the back of the machine.
The machine will now complete your cut. Once it finishes, pull out the mat. it may be necessary to use a cutting to to 'weed' your design from the excess material.
