MDWF 1030 - Human Lactation - 1 cr.
DESCRIPTION:
This course will inform students about culturally significant impacts on breastfeeding/chestfeeding, physiology of human lactation, and support/management of normal lactation.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
At the completion of this course, the students will be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills in the following areas:
Understands cultural attitudes, medical practices, or technological innovations, that may have undermined a mother’s confidence & commitment in breastfeeding/chestfeeding and how can you help her restore it.
Understands anatomy and physiology of lactation
Understands physiology of suckling and normal infant behavior
Understands how to conduct a breast assessment
Knows how to assist a mother with initiating breastfeeding/chestfeeding
Understands problems that may occur with breastfeeding/chestfeeding and how to manage
