A Thinking Prompt is a device (a video clip, photo, work of art, case, quote, song, poem, word, statistic, etc.) used to promote productive conversations, help students make connections, provide background knowledge, and engage students.
A thinking prompt becomes a powerful tool when it is paired with Effective Questions. Effective Questions such as open-ended, opinion, and big idea questions can lead to high level thinking and enable students to build content related schema.
As the teacher creates various thinking prompts and effective questions, they can deliver them in many different ways. Below are categories apps in which both teachers can initiate this strategy and how students can engage with their responses.
