Our Giving Plates
At our Christmas Eve Family Service, Rev. Tanya Webster gave away plates with home baked goodies and instructed those who received a plate to pass them on restocked with more treats so that the Christmas message of love carries on through the year. On the back of each plate, it says that it started its journey at Midstocket Church, Aberdeen in December 2019 and we would love to hear where each plate gets to on its journey. Please let us know and send a photo if you pass on or receive one of our Giving Plates.
Community Christmas Carol Singing
Down came the rain so our carol singing took place in the Sanctuary this year. We had a full house (including three very well-behaved dogs!). The enthusiastic singing of the carols was followed by mulled wine and mincepies. A joyous time was had by all.
Children and members of the congregation joined in the improptu navity. It was fantastic.
Young Hannah was fascinated by our life size nativity in the Sanctuary last week and it was wonderful to see her interacting with it.
During December for our Reverse Advent Calendar we collected produce for the Charity Instant Neighbour.

Music @ Midstocket
An enchanting programme of music was performed in the Sanctuary on Saturday 16th March. The event was entitled "Medicinal Music", not because the music had any specific links to medical conditions ... but because the two performers were both practising doctors. Dr Kathryn Arnould (soprano) accompanied by pianist Dr Graham Macdonald performed pieces by Faure, Debussy, Poulenc, Saint-Saens, Rachmaninoff, Durand, Delibes, Puccini and Gounod. Proceeds from the event went to The Vine Trust and The Sandpiper Trust.
Aberdeen Chamber Orchestra
Aberdeen Chamber Orchestra held a very successful concert with the title "In the shadow of Beethoven" on Saturday 16th February in our Sanctuary. Music by Rossini, Schubert, Belioz and Brahms was enthusiastically received by a full house.
Annual Presbytery Service
The Moderator of the General Assembly, The Right Reverend Susan Brown, presented a Long Service Certificate at the Presbytery Service at Ferryhill Parish Church to Ian Haw for 30 years service as an elder.
Our annual Burns Lunch took place on Sunday 20th January. The event started with the haggis being piped in by John and a formal ‘address to the haggis’ by Campbell. The traditional meal of haggis, neeps and tatties was then served, followed by coffee and shortbread. After this a programme of traditional Scottish entertainment took place, with readings in the Scottish dialect by Campbell, music and song by our guest Ailsa and community singing of Burns’ songs. A very successful event ended with everyone joining in ‘Auld Lang Syne’.
The Guild Party
The Guild held their annual party on Monday 7th January. Sandwiches, sausage rolls and quiches were served followed by eclairs and meringues which needless to say were enjoyed by everyone. Entertainment followed with Edna and June telling us amusing stories. These gave our minds a rest from the quizzes which we were trying to solve. The competitive spirit was very evident. Everyone went home in good spirits having enjoyed a wonderful party. Thanks are due to the Committee who organised the event.
