Changes to Services for Covid-19 Lockdown and Level 4 Restrictions

With the announcement on 4th January 2021 by the Scottish Government of further restrictions to control the spread of Covid-19, all Sunday Services in the Church building are now cancelled until further notice. We look forward to resuming Sunday Services once restrictions are eased sufficiently and we feel conditions are right to re-commence. In the meantime we continue with our neighbouring churches - Queen's Cross, Rubislaw, Holburn West and St Mark's to bring you a short recorded service every Sunday morning at 10:30 am. You can view an archive of previous recordings and you can also subscribe to our YouTube channel if you want to receive regular notifications of new videos.

We will also be publishing our own Midstocket short services on our web site and Facebook. You can see archives of our previous Midstocket videos.

Instant Neighbour Lent Challenge – could you please donate 40 items for Instant Neighbour by Easter! Susan will be in the Church grounds with her car every Thursday during Lent, starting on Thursday 25th February, from 11am until 12 noon, when you can drop items off. Just whatever you are able to bring along – any items from the list or similar and any number of items will be welcome. Pancake Café Church

On Tuesday 16th February we had a Pancake Café Church on Zoom. We all had a lot of fun with the amazing quiz prepared by Sheona. We enjoyed the company and pancakes with tea/coffee. Thank you everyone for joining. And we are already looking forward to the next Café Church on Friday 26th March at 10.30am.

Book Group

We met on zoom and had a good catch up, finding time to discuss the following books:

Miss Austin by Gill Hornby. The story of Casaandra Austin and her relationship with her famous sister. Why did she burn letters between them so many years later? A well written novel based on the real family told in Jane Austin style.

Shiver by Ali Reynolds. For those missing snow sports, a thriller set in a ski hotel and a group of snowboarders.

Runaway by Peter May A murder mystery set between 1965 swinging London and 2015, involving a group of aspiring young musicians.

An Unsuitable Match by Joanna Trollope. Getting back to her best, this tells of divorcee Rose who falls for Tyler, and the effect this has on their children from their first marriages.

God in Ruins by Kate Atkinson tells the story of Teddy in a follow on from Life After Life. Every bit as good.

A Gathering Light by Jennifer Donnelly. Mattie wants to be a writer, torn between going to university and supporting her single parent father. Throw in a love story and an unsolved murder and you have a well woven book with many strands

Agent Running in the Field John le Carre’s final novel. An ageing agent given a final mission, set in the dysfunctional politics of modern Britain, humorous yet chilling.

The Girl Behind the Gates by Brenda Davies. The author is a psychiatrist, and with the now deceased heroines permission, writes the story of a long term patient sent to an asylum as ‘morally deficient’ for having a baby out of wedlock. Compelling and haunting.

Four Minutes to Save a Life by Anna Stuart. A supermarket delivery man discovers just how many lonely people there are in his route and cant help but show some kindness to them, but it is not all plain sailing.

Agent Sonia by Ben McIntyre. A biography of Ursula Kuczynski. Born into a German Jewish family, she becomes a committed communist and Russian spy in China, Switzerland and the UK before during and after the Second World War. Known as Agent Sonya, she was responsible for handing the Russians all the Allies nuclear plans. An incredible story that changed the course of history.

We plan to meet again on Wednesday 3rd March. Anyone is welcome. Just let Edyta in the church office know and we will send you the link to join us.

Welcome to Midstocket Parish Church in Aberdeen, Scotland. We are a large, enthusiastic and energetic congregation, engaged on a range of activities with our community as you will see if you browse our web site. Whilst many of our activities are on hold because of Coronavirus restrictions, have a look around the web site to see the typical activities which centre around our Church. See What's On, News, In the Community, Worship and Exploring Faith, Life Events, and About Us

Our Office can still be contacted by phone and email at the usual numbers.

My name is Tanya Webster, and it is my pleasure at the start of 2020 to introduce myself as the new minister of Midstocket Parish Church.

I was born in Zambia to a Scottish mother and an English father and was brought up in South Africa.

I did my first degree in Accounting and auditing in South Africa and worked for the accounting firm KPMG in Pietermatitzburg near Durban for several years before moving to Scotland.

In 2004, I experienced a call to Church ministry, and was accepted by the Church of Scotland as a candidate for full-time ministry.

I graduated from Glasgow University in 2009, and after a year as a probationary minister in Kirriemuir, I was ordained and inducted as minister at Ardrossan Park Church.

I was minster there and Moderator of the Presbytery of Ardrossan before hearing God call me to Midstocket Church.

I am aware that being in the ministry can be challenging and rewarding and requires leadership, energy and compassion.

Midstocket Church has regular opportunities for worship, and a wide range of community activities. I hope to meet you at some of these events during 2020.

Our journey begins together.

God bless.
