Students undertake all phases of information technology (IT) systems design and implementation, conducting a major IT project, working singly or in collaboration with other students under the direction of a faculty or external project sponsor. With instructor permission, students may elect to pursue a co-curricular activity. All elements of the IT project lifecycle are considered including analysis, requirements, design, user and feasibility studies, ethical considerations, implementation, testing, documentation, and system rollout. In CIT 457, students work through pre-implementation to produce a detailed requirements and design proposal (and potentially prototype systems). In CIT 458, students implement, test, and rollout their systems.
What the Professor says...
CIT 448 was developed in response to local employers who wanted to hire employees with more specific intercultural experience. In response to this we did research that showed that IT companies grow quickly because they buy the companies that have the technology they need. Furthermore, the leader cause of failure of these mergers are poor culture integration. Culture must be actively managed on the country, company and department level.
From the course:
Clearly Information Technology has progressed at a rapid rate, providing many opportunities in the United States and abroad. In fact, the growth is so rapid that many companies choose to merge with another company to “buy” the technology they need instead of taking the time to develop it. Unfortunately, one of the major reasons that these mergers fail is the culture of the companies were not compatible and the culture change was not managed. In order to have a successful merger, many companies are hiring and training employees who have the capacity for intercultural competence. In recognition of this fact, ABET, the accrediting body for computing and technology programs actually requires that culture and global factors be included in the curriculum. The ability to use global strategy is a significant competitive advantage in the technology sector.
This Is accomplished by using software tools used by large IT companies, the state department etc.
