A Community Service Club

WHO ARE WE?

ASTRA GOALS

  • ABILITY to know that all of us have special talents to share with others
  • SERVICE to improve the lives of those less fortunate in the community
  • TRAINING to develop leadership ability and potential
  • RESPONSIBILITY to know the satisfaction of completing community projects
  • ACHIEVEMENT to experience success as a group of people working together

TAP NIGHT FUNDRAISER

In January ASTRA held a fundraiser Tap Night at our local Horsefly Brewery to help fund our future events and projects.

BOOK DRIVE

In December, ASTRA helped our local Montrose Altrusa organization collect books for their children's book drive. Books were wrapped by Altrusa members and then given to children within the Montrose Health and Human Services network.

WREATH MAKING

In December the members of ASTRA got together and made Christmas wreaths! This was a great opportunity for us to bond as a group. We then sold the wreaths around our community to help fund our Adopt a Family for Christmas Service Project.

PIONEER FUNDRAISER DINNER

In November many ASTRA members volunteered at the local Pioneer Club Annual Dinner. They helped set up and serve. As a community service organization we all love to help in any way we can! The Pioneer Club then donated $500 to ASTRA.

KINDNESS FLOCKING

Every Month members of ASTRA recognize some of the outstanding students at Montrose High School they see doing something kind. These students receive kindness bags that ASTRA puts together funded by Align with Kind. We want to recognize students who go out of their way to be kind to others.

HALLOWEEN PARTY

In October for one of our monthly ASTRA meeting we held a Halloween party for our group to bond more. We had some great food and games and some of our officers led a leadership activity and presented what it means to be an ASTRA member!

FALL CO

In October we sent 5 of our leadership officers to a leadership conference in Manitou Springs. This was a two day event in which our officers learned the best leadership skills and how to effectively run our club! This conference was a great way to get ASTRA started back up at Montrose High School.

CALENDER

BLANKET MAKING

In December and January multiple members of ASTRA again showed their love for the youth in our community by making blankets for children who need them. As a club we want to be leaders for our community and this was a great way to showcase some of our leaders!

STUFF THE STOCKINGS

In December ASTRA, alongside other school clubs, were given a child to give gifts to for Christmas. Members of ASTRA loved being able to help the youth in need within our community. We sponsored an eight year old girl and each member was able to go and get a small gift for our child, it was a great way to spread Christmas spirit!

Tortilla Flat Literacy Project

In December ASTRA teamed up with the high school LULAC club and attended a display of the Tortilla Flat Project. The ASTRA literacy project will be to help better this area of town in Montrose by creating and installing a little library drop at the neighborhood park. It was a great presentation and we were able to see how much literacy can help our community!

ALTRUSA LUNCHEON

In November the members of ASTRA attended the Altrusa luncheon to socialize with members. There we were able to learn a little bit more about Altrusa and our officers presented some of the leadership qualities they learned about at their conference. This was a great way for us to continue to build relationships with the Montrose Altrusa Organization!

ALIGN WITH KIND T-SHIRTS

In November we received funding from Align with kind to purchase our T-shirts and to sponsor our Kindness Flocking Project. We are very thankful for their support!

SCARECROW BUILDING

In October, ASTRA members built a scarecrow for the Scarecrow Festival. The Scarecrows were on display at the Montrose Botanic Gardens through October 20th and then auctioned off to benefit the Montrose Botanical Society. The theme of the ASTRA scarecrow was MHS Indian Sports Fan.
