The goal of the Foundations program is to support new teachers during their first four years in the district and help them obtain and master the essential knowledge and skills necessary to improve and support student achievement.

Foundations Days 3-5

Presenters: Staff Development Steering Committee and Guest Presenters

Program Description: This five-day workshop introduces participants to the curriculum and instructional frameworks espoused by the district: Understanding by Design, Marzano’s Instructional Strategies, etc. Participants will learn about the dynamic interaction among curriculum, instruction, and assessment, as well as the district’s expectations for student and teacher performance. The goal of the Foundations program is to support new teachers during their first four years in the district and help them obtain and master the essential knowledge and skills necessary to improve and support student achievement. Topics explored include Strong Evaluation Model, Lesson Design for Student Success, communication with parents, students, & counselors; parent conferences; assessing & documenting student progress; course recommendations; self reflection; needs assessment for Day 5

Foundations Follow-Up Year 2

Target Group: Mandatory for 2017-2018 Foundations Workshop Teacher Participants

Program Description: This workshop is for those teachers in their 2nd year in the Morris Hills Regional District. The first workshop will address focused note-taking strategies that can be used in the classroom to improve student learning and performance. The second workshop will address the framework for Understanding by Design as an approach to long term unit planning. The purpose of this workshop is to provide additional support for the teacher in his/her 2nd year in the district.

Program Description: This workshop is for those teachers in their 4th year in the Morris Hills Regional District. The workshop will address using feedback to grow, reflective practice, creating a growth mindset. The purpose of this workshop is to provide support, additional classroom strategies, and an opportunity to focus on and create a professional growth plan for their teaching career.
