The federal Title 1 program provides funds to public schools with at least 35 percent enrollment of children from low-income families. The program is intended to help ensure all children meet challenging state academic content and student academic achievement standards. Staff development and family involvement are key components of the Title 1 program. The program was established by the federal government's No Child Left Behind act in 2001 and is now regulated by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
Title 1 funds enable MIS to provide enhanced literacy and mathematics instruction and remediation to students at risk of not meeting North Carolina's end of grade performance standards. Our goal is that year to year, these students continue to grow towards grade level achievement while providing targeted instruction or intervention designed to meet these students' specific and unique learning needs.
MIS has been a school-wide Title 1 school since the 2015-2016 school year. Being school-wide means that our Title 1 team of instructors can work with any student at every grade level to provide support in reading and math. We work with all teachers in a variety of formats including co-teaching, collaborating as an additional small group instructor during core instruction or as an interventionist during our enrichment/intervention block known as Bobcat Time.
We believe it is the strong collaboration between our teachers, Title 1 instructors, administrators and parents that has brought us high academic growth the last few years. At the end of the 2018-2019 school year, MIS was elevated to a B-school ranking for showing such growth in our students. We are dedicated to the academic and social-emotional growth and well-being of our students and it shows in our performance results. We are #STRONGERTOGETHER.

The federal Every Student Succeeds Act requires school districts to notify parents of children attending a Title 1 school of their right to know the professional qualifications of the classroom teachers who instruct their child. Specifically you have the right to request the following information about each of your child's classroom teachers:
Whether the teacher meets the state qualifications and licensing criteria for the grades and core academic subjects he/she teaches.
Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency status because of special circumstances.
The teacher's college major, whether the teacher has any advanced degrees, and the field of discipline of the certification or degree.
Whether teacher assistants provide services to your child and, if so, their qualification.
In addition, the law requires that all schools that receive Title 1 funds must provide notification to every parent in the school whose child is being taught for four or more weeks by a teacher who is not Highly Qualified.
As a recipient of these funds, Mooresville Intermediate School provides quality instruction for all students and does so by employing the most qualified individuals to teach and support each student in the classroom. For information on teachers at our school, please click the link below.
