Honors Course

Students completing seventh grade English will develop an understanding of a wide variety of reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.

The course purpose is to develop an understanding and appreciation for the following language concepts:

• Applying proper grammar in writing and speaking
• Utilizing the writing process to enhance writing
• Demonstrating qualities of effective writing
• Composing in the informational, literary analysis, persuasive, and poetic genres
• Analyzing the works of a variety of authors – both classic and contemporary
• Utilizing the writing process and the research process
• Demonstrating proper vocabulary usage in the spoken and written forms

Our students will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to meet the standards for reading, writing, speaking, and listening at the 7th grade level.

There are several items that make Honors English different from regular English. These items are as follows: Extension Projects; independent work within the classroom and at home; varied writing assignments and higher expectations; within each unit there may be different project requirements and assessments.
