Cosolidating CORDEX (ConCord)

Date: October 11-13, 2022.

This hybrid workshop is hosted by the Norwegian Meteorological Institute and is held in collaboration with the Norwegian Public Health Institute, ESA, and CORDEX to foster co-production of knowledge on climate-health issues and for the provision of robust actionable information for climate services.

The main objectives of the workshop are to:

  • promote consolidation of global and regional climate models (GCMs, RCMs), empirical statistical downscaling (ESD) and historical observations/reanalyses for better information in support of robust future climate outlooks and climate change adaptation;

  • discuss how to further facilitate the use of information that is embedded in the observed and modelled climate data;

  • discuss what information is needed for various purposes and how to use it.

We will discuss how we best use the available information based on a given context and avoid misrepresentation of potential future climate outcomes, given available data. This discussion involves principles for consolidating downscaled information in decision-making/climate services and climate change adaptation. We also want to bring in know-how on how to involve statistics.

Venue: Kulturhuset in Oslo, Norway (see map below). Streaming on YouTube playlist ‘WCRP CORDEX - WORKSHOP Day 1(> 300 views), WCRP CORDEX - WORKSHOP Day 2(> 100 views), ‘WCRP CORDEX - WORKSHOP Day 3’ (> 60), and a parallel online chat and break-out-groups on this Zoom link. We also encourage the use of social media and Twitter with the hashtag #ConCordOslo2022.

Format: This is a hybrid workshop with more than 200 registered participants for this workshop representing more than 60 different countries. Most participants will attend online and about 40 will attend onsite in Oslo. The keynote talks will be streamed along with a parallel zoom session for break-out-group sessions and interactive chatting for online participants, in addition to shared google documents for collecting input and contributions. The streamed presentation will be available online afterwards on CORDEX's YouTube channel. For on-site participants, the meeting will be organised around tables. Lunch and refreshments will be provided, and on the last day of the workshop, there will be an excursion to discover Oslo’s climate adaptation projects for water management followed by lunch at Økern Portal.

Keywords are climate change, regional climate models, downscaling, climate change impacts, climate change adaptation and health aspects of climate change.

Workshop output: meeting report/synthesis based on all inputs. Also see workshop description at CORDEX website.
