Count by 1’s to 120 one time (the video below is a workout and a counting video!). Then start at 100 and count to 120 three times. Talk about how columns are like big poles that stand up and down and they can help support a building. When we write in columns we start at the top and write downwards.
On page 159 in the Student Activity Math Book, write the numbers 1-120 in columns. The number 3 goes UNDER the number 2.
When finished, Look at the bottom row (Left to right) and notice how the numbers start at 10 and go up by 10! 10, 20, 30, 40…..120. When you write the numbers in columns, the numbers to the left are 10 less and the numbers to the right are 10 more. In order to answer 2-9 you have to think about the grid and which way is less and which way is more.
Review pronouns from lesson 7
Work through activity page 37&38. On the back of page 38 have the student write their own sentence using a pronoun in the space given.
Read the story Ants and answer the comprehension questions orally.
What is an ant farm?
Who is the queen?
How do the rest of the ants take care of the queen?
Why could the queen’s life be a hard life?
Listen to "Hansel and Gretel, Part 1" and then answer these questions orally:
What is the setting of the story?
How does the stepmother feel when she sees Hansel and Gretel return?
What does she do the next time she plans to leave them in the woods?
