Practice the two methods for subtraction, “count all” and “count on” for the equation 14-8=__.
“Count all”-Draw 14 dots and cross out 8 to show we are taking away 8 dots. Count how many dots are left for the answer.
“Count on”- Put 8 in your head and count on using your fingers until you get to 14. (8 in your head and put 1 finger up to show 9, 2 fingers up to show 10, 3 fingers up to show 11, 4 fingers up to show 12, 5 fingers up to show 13, and 6 fingers up to show 14 STOP) 6 fingers should be up to show that 8 from 14 equals 6.
On page 113 in the Homework and Remembering Math Book complete the story problems (underline the numbers and decide if it is a adding on problem or take away problem) and the subtraction problems using either the “count all” or “count on” method
