Participants across the state participated in this full scale exercise to respond to the outbreak of a highly infectious novel virus. Federal assets were brought in from the CDC and distributed to local points of dispensing through Regional Transfer Points. Regional staff from Mesa County Public Health received medical countermeasures (MCM) delivered via air by the Wyoming Air National Guard, then transported the MCM to seven receiving sites in three Western Slope counties.

Grand Junction Regional Airport Full Scale Exercise--May 4, 2017

Partners from across the valley responded to an airplane "crash" at the Grand Junction Regional Airport. In addition to the airport's Emergency Operations Plan, the exercise also tested emergency operation coordination, the Mesa County Mass Casualty Plan, Mesa County Mass Fatality Plan, and the surge capabilities at our local hospitals.

Community Hospital "Cold Spell"

Full Scale Exercise--March 9, 2017

Partners from Community Hospital, Mesa County Public Health, Mesa County Emergency Management, Colorado Canyons Hospital, and St. Mary's Hospital, along with students from the nursing programs at CMU and CCU, participated in a exercise in which floor 2 through 4 required evacuation. Since moving into the new location on G Road just over a year ago, Community Hospital staff have been training on procedures to safely evacuate patients from multiple floors in an emergency. This exercise provided an opportunity to put training to the test in a "no fault" environment.

Local CBS affiliate KREX ran the following segment to publicize the exercise:

Medical Countermeasure / Resource Request Workshop--November 7, 2016

Partners from Mesa County and NW Colorado gathered to learn what roles they might play in a community-wide emergency. Staff from Onward Innovation facilitated the training and created an exercise that simulated the resource request process at the local level.
