Each year Maricopa Community Colleges, Coconino Community College and Central Arizona College host a 3-day Leadership Retreat. This year, the retreat will be held virtually on September 28-30, with the theme being: Come Back Strong. This experience will focus around the ideas of: health & well-being, connection and social justice. You can expect dynamic speakers, engaging workshops, guest leader panel, and stellar leadership development. MCC Mascot Tryouts

Try out to be the MCC Mascot, Thor the Thunderbird, and be the heart of Thunderbird spirit. Build your work resume and earn $$$!

The Mesa Community College mascot, Thor the Thunderbird, represents soaring power, strength and fun. Thor’s role is to exemplify Thunderbird spirit by encouraging enthusiasm, athletic excitement and MCC pride, while representing the college at sporting, community and college activities. Thor energizes events by interacting with fans and participants. As Thor, you receive $50 per appearance and demonstrate your abilities to entertain, interact with individuals and crowds, while exhibiting professionalism, following instructions, showing initiative and participating with reliability in scheduled events. Appreciating Neurodiversity

Speaker: Kate Mohler, English Faculty and Jull Nico, Disability Resources Specialist

Conditions such as anxiety, depression, autism and others have been increasing in our student population, and they also exist within our employee population. This one-hour presentation will provide a definition of neurodiversity and an understanding of how mental disabilities can present and play out in classrooms and other campus settings. Presenters will provide data and resources regarding what we can all do as members of our District community to be more inclusive: real-world scenarios and solutions will be covered along with a Q&A session. Attendees will learn how students and employees can seek accommodations for support.

MCC alumni and local police officers go head-to-head to raise funds for the MCC Men’s Basketball program and Arizona Law Enforcement Outreach and Support (AZLEOS) “Hoopin’ it up with kids” program. At the game, kid and family activities will be directed by players from the MCC basketball team and local police department, to foster closer relationships among students, the police and the community.

Rising with Resilience

Mary Driessen, MCC’s new Associate VP of Administrative Services, was working on the 16th floor of the south tower in the World Trade Center on 9/11/01. September is Campus Safety Awareness Month

Campus Safety Tip #1 for Students, Employees and General Public: Please enter the following MCC College Police phone number in your mobile phone in case of a campus emergency. Emergency: 480-784-0911.
Campus Safety Tip #2: MCC students and employees, it is imperative your contact information, especially your mobile phone number, is accessible to the college so you will receive text-message alerts if a situation occurs.
Campus Safety Tip #3: Locate the yellow Alertus message boxes inside buildings, and the blue Emergency Talk-A-Phones in external areas on campus. These tools will provide instructions to be heeded in the event of an emergency.
Campus Safety Tip #4: Know what to do during a lockdown. Quickly secure an area by locking doors and windows in a room or building. Turn off lights and close blinds. Restrooms are not secure. REMAIN QUIET! Silence cell phones. DO NOT answer the door for anyone. Law enforcement will have room access via key or card. If you are unable to get to a secure location, leave campus immediately. If you are off campus, do not come onto campus.

20th Anniversary Celebration

The beautiful Red Mountain campus of Mesa Community College is celebrating it's 20th anniversary this year! The doors opened for classes in the Fall of 2001, and the Red Mountain campus has been providing students with an outstanding experience ever since. The community at the Red Mountain campus is looking forward to celebrating throughout the month of November. Stay tuned for an event schedule. Clubs are an extremely valuable part of a student's experience at MCC. If you are interested in getting involved in a student club, please stay tuned for opportunities to meet our clubs, and consider starting (or reactivating) a new club! We are also seeking club advisors to help support a variety of MCC clubs. Any faculty or staff that are interested in this opportunity are encouraged to reach out to a member of the Student Life team.

The Club Hub will have an updated list of student clubs (as we learn which clubs will be active this year) as well as important paperwork, forms, and a list of club connections to various Fields of Interest.

We Care Wednesday

We Care Wednesday is a food distribution that takes place on the first Wednesday of every month at the Southern/Dobson campus and the third Wednesday of every month at the Red Mountain campus. The distribution happens from 10 am-12 pm. The food distributions are open to all students and community members in need of food assistance:

  • Drive-thru service. A volunteer will place food in your trunk or vehicle. (Walk-up service is available for those without vehicles.)

  • Masks are encouraged. If you are feeling any cold or flu symptoms, please stay home and seek medical treatment.

  • Southern Dobson: Located in the Southwest parking lot. Please enter from Dobson Road onto Solar Way at the Southern and Dobson campus.

  • Red Mountain: Located in the Red Mountain Way Circle. Please enter from McKellips Rd and proceed straight through the stop sign. Distribution takes place in the former Bus Stop circle near the library.

Southern/Dobson Dates (fall): Oct 6, Nov 3, Dec 1

Red Mountain Dates (fall): Oct 20, Nov 17, Dec 15

Career Services Workshops

MCC Career Services will host virtual workshops each Tuesday and Thursday during the Fall semester. Our workshops will take place two times each Tuesday/Thursday at 10am and 6pm. Our Tuesday/Thursday virtual workshops will cover the topics of resume writing, cover letter writing, and interviewing skills.

Included in our Working Wednesday Events will be dedicated time for students to interact with MCC's Career Services staff and local employers, with open positions, on our Clock Tower sidewalk from 10am - 12pm each Wednesday from September 1st through December 1st.
