Dear Fourth Grader,
My name is Mrs. Raccuia and I am thrilled to be your fourth grade teacher this year! I have spent the summer with my wonderful family at the beach, relaxing by the pool, going to Great Adventure and Hurricane Harbor, and traveling. I hope you too have had a fantastic time with family and friends this summer! The summer is a great time to recharge and get ready for the next school year.
As the summer comes to a close, there are a few ways that you can begin to prepare for the start of the school year. One easy way is to start getting back into a good nighttime routine. Getting to sleep earlier will make the transition back into the school year an easier one. Please also begin to review your multiplication facts. Multiplication is the foundation to most fourth grade math concepts. If you do not know your multiplication, then it becomes difficult to divide, to do fractions and to solve word problems. You can practice your multiplication facts with flash cards or by playing games on the computer. Ultimately, the goal in fourth grade will be to complete 80 multiplication facts in 2 minutes. It is also important to continue to read nightly. The best way to become a better reader is to read. The summer is a great time to read all of your favorite books!
If you have not already done so, please be sure to complete the summer assignments. These will be collected on the first day of school. For more information about these assignments, please visit the district website.
Hopefully you have received the fourth grade supply list. The supply list for fourth grade can also be viewed on the Wemrock Brook website. In our classroom, we will be using notebooks. Therefore, in addition to the supply list, you will need to purchase some class specific items. A list of these items is available on my teacher website. Please label these supplies as indicated on my website. Remember to bring a healthy snack and your favorite book on the first day of school. We will also have door prizes and fun activities to get to know each other.
This part of the summer is one of my favorite times of the year. It is a time for new beginnings and a fresh start! I’m excited to get to know you and your classmates. If your parents/guardians have any questions or concerns, they can email me at email@example.com . I hope you enjoy the remainder of your summer. I look forward to a fun and productive year together!
