Tonight's exploration will be led by:

Cyndy Carlson, P.E., Ph.D.

Associate Professor

Civil Engineering Department

Merrimack College

As a professional engineer (PE) and associate professor of civil engineering at Merrimack College, Dr. Carlson understands that civil engineering impacts public health and community well-being in many ways. Dr. Carlson is passionate about the many ways infrastructure and its designers can support healthier communities (both human and environmental) through improved walkability, water-quality protection, and stormwater management. She is also interested in how best to teach engineering and science concepts to professionals, college students and youth. This involves a variety of types of hands-on, experiential learning, such as project-based learning, real-world projects, and simulations/games.

Anne Pfitzner Gatling, Ph.D.

Associate Professor

Education & Community Studies Department

Merrimack College

Dr. Anne Gatling has been a passionate advocate, practitioner, and researcher of STEM education for more than two decades. She shares this enthusiasm with her undergraduate and graduate students, who will be the next generation of educators, including a long-standing project with Wetherbee School in Lawrence, Massachusetts, and the Lawrence Math/Science Partnership program that works with local schools and out of school time programs to build linguistically and culturally diverse students' scientific skills and literacy.
