Sixth Grade Literature

Sixth grade reading will use a variety of literature-based, informational and computer-based programs to address the language standards as noted in the Common Core State Standards.

      • Identifying key ideas and details (RL.6.1, 6.2, 6.10 RI.6.1, 6.2, 6.10)
      • Examining plot development and analyzing key events and ideas (RL.6.3, 6.10 RI.6.3,6.10)
      • Analyzing figurative language and point of view as it relates to plot/theme development (RL.6.4, 6.6 RI.6.4, 6.6)
      • Comparing and contrasting various forms of literature and their presentation style (RL.6.7, 6.9 RI.6.9)
      • Analyzing how a particular word, sentence, chapter, scene, or stanza fits into the overall structure of a text (RL.6.4, 6.5 RI.6.4, 6.5)
      • Comparing and contrasting selections of informational text, learning to evaluate specific arguments presented and understanding how authors may differ in their presentation of like events/topics (RI.6.5, 6.6, 6.9)
      • Conducting a short research project to prepare a persuasive speech drawing on several sources for information (RI.6.7, 6.8 RL.6.4, 6.5, 6.6)

Achieve 3000 : a web-based differentiated approach that students will use weekly with consistent participation and grading requirements provided for all reading classes.

Accelerated Reader: all students will be required to participate in Accelerated Reader. A.R. point and accuracy goals will be calculated for a grade and students will have incentives at each grade level.

Silent Sustained Reading (S.S.R.) : weekly Library visit for Accelerated Reader curriculum goals.
