Physical Education at Home
Welcome!
Physical Education P.E.
Here in Mercy Secondary School Physical Education is an exciting and challenging part of your learning journey. We fully realise the essential role Physical Education plays in your life long learning development. Physical activity not only helps our physical development but our emotional, mental and social development too.
During lockdown it is more important than ever to take time out during the day to focus on our physical activity. To help plan your physical activity more effectively I have created a website to run alongside a programme I developed for each class group. The range of activities on the website gives everyone the capacity to improve their engagement with PE no matter what your level of ability. The activities are achievable while developing opportunities for setting yourself challenges and goals.
Junior Cycle
Society is starting to recognise that wellbeing underpins all aspects of our life. Improved wellbeing supports you as a learner and as a person. It develops key skills that stand to you for life. It helps develop our focus, resilience and cognitive skills. Part of the website includes areas of wellbeing such as mindfulness and meditation. In Junior Cycle we support wellbeing through all our classes but especially PE, SPHE and CSPE. Engagement with these subjects can now be recorded as part of your JCPA, your Junior cycle Profile of Achievement. Not only can it be recorded as part of your JCPA but there is potential for you to achieve another area of success for your JCPA in other areas of learning. Make sure you log onto your PE google classroom to see how you can achieve this.
TY
As part of your TY certification PE offers the opportunity to achieve accreditation for your overall grade as well as certification in the subject of PE at pass, merit or distinction level.
Leaving Certificate Applied
As part of your LCA certification PE offers the opportunity to achieve accreditation for your overall grade as well as certification in the subject of PE at pass, merit or distinction level. It also offers a foundation and an insight into career areas in the area of Personal Training/Health education.
Senior Cycle PE
In Mercy Secondary school we believe that students can achieve success in many areas. We strive to help students on the path to further studies and careers. PE is a subject that can support further studies in Science, health and personal training. It can serve as a tool we use for life. Studies show that students who participate in physical activity have improved attention, better working memory, and increased academic learning time. It is well worthwhile engaging with a range of activities from the website; even 20 minutes a day can make a huge difference in our overall wellbeing and in our studies.
Make sure you check into your Google classroom in PE to see your tasks and to work with me on your PE goals. I am really happy to have this opportunity to engage with you all on this new and exciting programme.
