Morrison Miners go for GOLD!
Give respect - Own your successes - Look for the good - Do the right thing

Welcome to Ms. Medina's School Counseling page!
I am thrilled to be here at Chester Morrison with our wonderful students and skilled team of teachers and staff. It is my highest priority to support each of our students' social, emotional, and academic needs based on the American School Counselor Association National Model. I encourage student development through monthly classroom guidance lessons, running data-driven small groups, providing short-term individual counseling, and making referrals to community resources as needed.

Plus, I enjoy getting to know our incredible students through fun Social Emotional Learning (SEL) activities and encouraging them to be considerate citizens both on and off campus!

What does a School Counselor do?

The American School Counselor Association (ASCA) is the professional organization that MUSD counselors rely on in order to build an ethical and sustainable school counseling program that positively impacts our schools and communities as a whole.

"School counselors have unique qualifications and skills to implement a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses pre-K–12 students’ academic, career and social/ emotional development needs. School counselors are leaders, advocates, collaborators and consultants who create systemic change to ensure equitable educational outcomes through the school counseling program. School counselors demonstrate the belief that all students have the ability to learn by advocating for and contributing to an education system that provides optimal learning environments for all students." (ASCA Ethical Standards for School Counselors, 2022)

Attendance Matters

Having a positive attendance record is one of the strongest predictors for student success; however, it can also be a struggle within each grade level (TK-12) for a variety of reasons. Please see the information provided in the infographics below and contact our Office Clerk if you have any questions or concerns regarding your student's attendance.

Recognizing, Refusing, and Reporting Bullying.

Speaking with your student about different forms of bullying and encouraging problem-solving strategies when bullying is not taking place is incredibly beneficial for social development at all stages.
