From the Primary School Principal

Greetings everyone. On the 6th of May our primary school students presented to their parents in their student-led conferences. They shared with them information about the learning they had achieved over the year, some of the things they were most proud of, and the goals they had been working on since the 3-way conferences in February. This sort of conference may be quite different for some parents who are more used to the traditional parent-teacher conference but, based on the feedback I had from so many of you on that day, you were impressed with what your children could share with you, and felt proud of their abilities to express themselves about their learning.

Research has shown that these sorts of conferences really build confidence in students and can help cement the learning that has occurred into long term memory. When a student can talk about their goals and the progress made, and can talk about the concepts and knowledge that they have acquired through their learning, then they really have learned these things and have ownership of them. This is what we want for our students. It is one of the overarching principles of learning that define the PYP. I was very proud of all our students and their efforts.

The end of the school year brings with it all sorts of concluding ceremonies and celebrations. This week we celebrated the Arts with our Spring concert and Art Exhibition. Our students have worked hard, along with their teachers, to demonstrate their learning in this wonderful curriculum area. I just love seeing students perform, sing, produce works of art and show their success in areas other than traditional academics. My thanks to Ms Crystal, Ms Lucy, Ms Rima and Mr Christopher for their work with our students this year in Music and Art.
