Student-Led Conferences

Student led conferences will take place here at on Saturday 6th May. These are an important part of our reporting to parents and we look forward to welcoming you to the school for this event.

In a student led conference, students show their parents some examples of things they have learnt over the year. They explain what they have learnt, how they have learnt and ideas they have for what they need to learn next. They are a really important part of students being responsible and accountable for their learning, an important part of our PYP programme. Before the conference, teachers help students select examples of their learning to give a good overall picture. They discuss and reflect on the learning that has happened and help students prepare an agenda. During the conference, students take a lead and, in their classroom, follow the agenda they have prepared and visit specialist stations to share their learning. When you come to your child’s student led conference please:

  • Listen to your child and show them you take what they say seriously.
  • Be positive in your comments but question them about anything that is not clear.
  • Allow the child to guide the conference, using their agenda.
  • Your child’s teacher will give you a reflection form. Please Complete and return this.

Please be aware:

  • To enable a good length of time for each conference, we timetable up to three conferences in a classroom at one time. Although this may seem strange at first, once your conference is happening, you will be so engrossed in your child’s conference you will not notice the others.
  • Teachers are on hand to support where necessary but are not able to hold long discussions with individual parents. As always, we are happy to schedule this at another time if you have any further questions.

We hope you enjoy hearing your child’s perspective on their learning.

If you have any further questions about student led conferences, please do not hesitate to contact Ms Linda or Mr Christopher.
