Selection of STUCO Class Representatives

This week every homeroom from Years 4 - 13 has been selecting their Class Representatives for STUCO, the MEF Izmir Student Council - and here is the new team in the photo. These students are from ten different countries, a great example of the truly international teamwork that characterizes our community. Their job will be to represent the views of their homerooms at STUCO and to take part in fund-raising activities and events to strengthen and grow our community spirit.

Next Wednesday we will be electing the STUCO officers from the Upper Secondary classes, then we will be ready to get to work the following week. Look out for the election results next week.

Upgrades to Physics Lab

Secondary school science students have returned to school this week to find a fresh, modern Physics lab. This learning space has been fitted with lab tables that will allow for enhanced scientific exploration and experimentation for General Science and Physics. Upgrades to learning spaces serve to Inspire, Nurture and Challenge our students and teachers.

Teachers are Learners Too

On Saturday 21 September, the MEFIS Izmir faculty participated in workshops to enhance their practice and the school. Sessions on the use of a new curriculum documentation platform, Rubicon Atlas, as well as discussions on the vertical progression of subject areas from Reception to Year 13 will enable the school to more readily develop, document and revise the curriculum and thus the students' learning journey.

After School Activities

The After School Activities program for the Autumn will begin on Monday 30 September. Students will be active in Computer Coding, Swimming, Model United Nations, Football, Storytelling and Podcasting. We look forward to sharing pictures of these activities in future newsletters.

Community Service

Secondary students will have the opportunity to contribute to the school and the wider community through community service activities. THis programme is compulsory for year 7 to 11 students.

Our school works with organisations and registered charity organisations to support the community through fund raising and special activities. This trimester our students are working with Can Arkadaş Special Education school. The students are developing learning resources for the students and will also meet with the students for shared activities.

Playground Use After School

For the safety of your children, if they are playing in the garden after school hours, please ensure that you are supervising them.

The climbing equipment, in particular, can be risky if a child falls. This apparatus is rated as suitable for children from 6 to 10 years. If your child is under 6 years old, please do not allow them to use this equipment even with supervision. Older children using the equipment must be actively supervised.

Another week completed and students are really settling into their routines. For all of our students, there have been good days and some not so good days. All of which are perfectly okay. In life we will have days that are better than others. On those not so good days, its important to remember that no feeling is permanent.

“Being temporary doesn't make something matter any less, because the point isn't for how long, the point is that it happened.”

Robyn Schneider, Extraordinary Means

Always remember, it will get better.
