Parent Consultations

One of the key components in the school and home partnership is the communication that happens at the Parent Consultation Meetings. All parents are encouraged to schedule meetings with their child's teachers.

Contact Information Updates Requested

At the start of the year, parents were requested to provide updates to their contact information as well as emergency contact information. Please ensure that you are communicating any changes to your contact information with Ms Burcu.

An audit of our database indicates that we are still missing some contact details for some families. We will be following up directly regarding these anomalies. It is important for the Safety and Security of our entire school community that we have the correct information on file.

Sports Days

In preparation for our annual Sports Day, it was determined that the local facility that has been used in the past has not been properly maintained to provide a safe environment for the event. Therefore, Ms Samantha and some volunteers are preparing for three separate events to be hosted at school where students will be able to participate in individual and group activity and sport. We are looking forward to the life and energy these events will bring to the campus.

Events will take place during the week of 21 to 25 October. Reception 1 to Year 2 will be on Monday 21st, Years 3 to 6 will be on Tuesday 22nd and Years 7 to 13 will be on Friday 25th. As the details of these events is still being determined, we will share more in next week's newsletter.

Spirit Week

The week of 21 to 25 October is shaping up to be an exciting time for the school community. It was announced earlier that Thursday the 24th would see UN Day celebrations being observed. With the addition of the three Sports Day events over the course of the week, the buzz of school spirit will be even greater. So the addition of the Student Council sponsored Spirit Week themes days will heighten the sense of camaraderie among all students and staff.

University Rep Visits

Loughborough University in the UK will be at MEF IS Izmir on 17 October during last lesson. “Loughborough University is ranked top 10 in all of the national league tables (Times, Guardian etc). The University is extremely well known for its Sports programmes whilst offering very strong Engineering, Science and Social Science programmes.” While this presentation is geared towards Year 13 and Fall 2020 admissions, our Year 11 and 12 students are encouraged to attend. It is an incredible opportunity to find out more information regarding academic and extracurricular expectations universities have.

Baking for Kitties - Action and Social Responsibility

Primary students who take part in Thursday's baking club have regularly been baking for the MEF community. Baking cakes and sharing the results of our baking with friends has now evolved into baking for our school kittens. Charging 1 TL for a cake this week raised over 60 TL to put towards feeding and paying for vet fees to ensure the cats are well fed and healthy.

This will be an ongoing project and every Thursday extra cakes or cookies will be available for sale. Thank you to everyone who bought a cake and helped us to raise money to enable us to look after our cats responsibly.

Clothing Collection for Refugees in Chios

Our Community Service club is assisting with the collection of used clothing donations to be provided to refugees located in Chios through the Chios Eastern Shore Response Team (CESRT). The charity is registered in Germany and Greece under the parent umbrella of Offene Arme e. V. (Open Arms). https://www.cesrt.org/index.php/offenearme/

Cooperating with one of our parents, Ms Joanne Gilchrist, the primary collection date will be during the Parent Consultations on 17 and 18 October. Donation boxes will be available just after exiting the security checkpoint at the school entrance. Additional details are available in this flyer.
