This Month's News "worthy" Updates:
As a school-wide focus; we will continue with our SEL learning expectations. Specific topics will include; Body in the Group, Thinking with your Eyes and Smart Guess and Size of the Problem. Body in the Group focuses being aware of ourselves and our physical proximity; to encourage engaged learners and be successful in social interactions. Similarly, to think with your eyes assists us to be aware of others feelings by focusing on their facial expressions we recognize in others or for example; learning what the next step is in our classroom by looking and being aware of those around us. We also spend time encouraging students to make a Smart Guess; using the clues around us and thinking about what we already have learned as we practice new learning and social skills. Lastly, understanding what the size of the problem is can also help us to manage and cope with the problem in front of us. It also encourages us to understand when we may be able to problem solve by ourselves and when it is important to get an adult's assistance to solve the problem.
The month of October is not only for fall festivals and fun Halloween activities, it is also a month that we are reminded to pause a moment (or longer) from our busy schedules and take time for Self-Care. Self-Care can look like many different things for many people because it's ALL about what YOU need; it can be simply getting more rest by an earlier bedtime, or saying "no" to plans and staying home to enjoy family time. But for many of our children especially, Self-Care is a daily battle when we struggle with never-ending and repetitive thoughts of worries!
Here are a few resources for parents/guardians/caretakers of our students to assist in quieting our minds and opening our thoughts up to Self-Care.
October 10 marks World Mental Health Day, a special opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of mental well-being for our children and families. This year, we want to encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on self-care and the importance of mental health in our lives.
We’re excited to share that the local rec center is offering a Self-Care and Mindfulness Series designed for all ages!
Let’s work together to create a supportive environment where our kids feel safe to express their feelings and learn healthy coping strategies. Remember, mental health is just as important as physical health!
