Picture of the Week

6th graders were learning about geological time. The sticky notes on the floor represented different era's. This exercise helped students get a sense of the age of the earth and how little time human's have been around as compared to the rest of Earth's history.

Trenton School News

This past week was the first week with our pre-k students. There are 15 students enrolled, and I had several opportunities to see them sing, dance, eat and play together. They even went out into the greenhouse to pick melons which they had for snack. Teachers Kelly Nutter and Pat Russell have set the foundation for a successful program. Their guidance in the first week has made parents feel welcome and excited about their child's first school experience. I am thirleed every time I get to say that the Trenton School is a pre-k - 8 school.

Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd graders went to Ship Harbor in Acadia National Park. Students walked with park rangers through a coastal forest exploring the diverse interactions in this unique environment.

Looking ahead, 6th graders will be at the Schoodic Institute for 3 days with other sixth graders from across the district. This multi-day, residential outdoor Schoodic Education Adventure (SEA) program is led on campus by Acadia National Park educators and district teachers. Students participate in hands-on field experiences along the rugged coast of Maine which offers unparalleled experiences and an exciting way to build science literacy and enthusiasm.

I hope you are having a wonderful holiday weekend! - Mr. Z

School Nurse Note

It's time to start the process for the Influenza clinic at TES. I'm happy to announce that the Flu-Mist (Intranasal) vaccine is available again this year. According to the CDC the formula is changed every other year and in 2016 the results showed that one of the 3 strains in the Flu-Mist didn't work and so they banned its use in 2017. Apparently this years formula is entirely different and doesn't include the faulty strain. All influenza vaccines in the US contain 3 strains of flu.

In order to make certain there is enough state vaccine to go around I need to know how many of each sort of vaccine we will need. All the paperwork, including the permission forms are on the school's website (Health Info Link). There are 2 forms there, one for each vaccine. If you want your child to get their vaccine at school, Please download, fill out and send in the form of your choice. You can also request a hard copy sent home with your student. Please plan to have these in to me no later than October 19th.

PTC is looking for Volunteers!

Please consider volunteering your time to the PTC. The events hosted by the PTC help fund educational field trips, buy new sports equipment, replace playground equipment and fund special events that are held throughout the school year for the students.
