Trenton School News

This past week saw the end of the Fall sports season. The XC team had two races with runners Sharyn Lipsky and Miles Burr placing in the Coastal League Championship 5th and 8th respectfully. The Soccer team played its final game against Hancock but was unable to advance to the next round. Our students were great competitors throughout their respective seasons. Thank you to the coaches for their time and efforts in support our students.

K-2 students prepared and presented "Not So Scary Tales" to family and friends. The evening began with a potluck supper, the main course a squash and sweet potato soup made from vegetables from the school garden. Students then presented their "Tales" in the gym decorated for the season by the PTC. "Not So Scary Tales" is a family literacy event to highlight the importance of reading in your child's life and future success. Early reading with your child not only supports their literacy growth which sets them up for academic success; it will also provide them with the background knowledge and skills to be stronger thinkers. In these early years, it is essential that you read to and listen to your child as the read and share what they are reading. This straightforward daily task will go a long way to promoting students success.

The week wrapped up with the middle school hiking in Acadia National Park. This is the first of two yearly hikes middle school students will get to do this year. One in the Fall and one in the Spring. Students had the opportunity to choose from four hikes of various difficulty levels. Friday was a great day for a hike and students did a great job spending the day in nature. Beyond the physical benefits of hiking, research also points to the mental benefits of walking outside. Those benefits include a boost to creativity, improve symptoms of ADHD, a boost brain power and reduces obsessive and negative thinking.

So, read with your child and take them for a hike. These are simple yet profound acts that will support your child's success.

I hope you all had a good weekend! - Mr. Z
