MHS student section in 2018!
It's Friday night, it is your school's Homecoming football game so you put on your Muskie gear, head to your school’s stadium, and get ready to head into your student section.
Aubrey Haney, senior, and student section leader, spoke about some expectations or rules you have to follow being in the student section.
“Seniority is in play. Freshman to the back and seniors to the front! I know this is hard as a freshman but I promise everyone will get their turn," said Aubrey.
"Be respectful to our band, cheerleaders, pom team, and football teams, along with each other in the student section. This means cleaning up after yourself and staying quiet while teams are performing. (They are really good and deserve our love and support!),” said Aubrey. That means, no throwing things!
When going to the games there are themes posted like USA day, black or white out, and Muskie mania.
“Do the themes and cheers, BE LOUD!!! Go all out, we are only in high school once.” Don’t be one of those people who don't participate!
"HAVE FUN!!!!” Dressing in the themes makes the student section much more cohesive, and a lot more enjoyable for everyone!
But Aubrey said that this year she thinks the student section has a lot more school spirit than previous years.
Aubrey is one of our student section leaders so she sees everyone in the student section, she says that she really enjoys being a student section leader.
“There isn’t much frustration about being a student section leader. I really enjoy it.” Aubrey says.
Aubrey then said she had some expectations for the student section this year.
“I just want a supportive and fun student section for this year!! I like bringing new things into it like the leis and USA flags for every game or having megaphones this year. It's all really exciting.” Said Aubrey.
Junior Alanna Vigil, a Pom dancer also revealed her opinions on the student section.
“My favorite cheer to do is 'Let me hear your Muskie spirit, what's that you say?' I love the energy it gives, and how everyone is involved.” Alanna said.
Being in Pom and dancing on the field, the dancers have a good view of the student section, so Alanna can tell what we have improved on from past years.
“I do think our student section has improved and expanded since last year. Covid is still affecting our sports and the size of our crowd. Now that Covid has dialed down a lot I feel like there is so much more energy and students involved.”
But why is it important to be loud? What would it do for the players?
Alanna says, “Having a lively section just pumps everyone up, even the players, it gets the energy going and creates a good flow. Having a supportive student section I am sure makes the football players feel great and ready to play.”
So next time you are at the football game remember these rules of the student section, be loud, dress the theme, and respect the band and dance team while they are performing!
