No Spirit for Spirit Week
Just about everyone is excited to dress up and go all out for homecoming week, but what about the people who dread the week?

Homecoming week is undeniably an exciting time for a lot of people, but it would be wrong to say that it’s fun for everyone. Some students make their way through the halls without really caring much about things like what they’ll wear for Tacky Tourist Day or how loud they’ll cheer for the Muskies during the game. It’s not wrong to say that some people just aren’t ‘Muskie Maniacs’.
When talking to senior, Jaydon Stuart, he offers his opinion on homecoming week. I asked him what his least favorite thing would tend to be about homecoming week, and he said this:
“People take it too seriously sometimes, I don’t mind seeing it but I like to keep to myself so those who are overly excited about it aren’t really for me.”
When asked on the same matter, Jack Furman, senior, tends to find his faults with homecoming week within the themes.
“I’ve never usually been a huge fan of the themes for the dances, I get the point of it being Muskie themed this year but there are other themes that can be used that aren’t just Muskie related,” he said.
When these seniors were asked if they had any regrets about not joining in on the spirit when they could, they both wished they had participated in previous homecoming weeks.
“Right now I’m regretting it a little, since the last home game I’ve realized that if you’re with the right friends it’s a bit fun,” Jaydon said, “But it is what it is, I’ve still made good memories and in general I can’t say I’ve had a bad school experience.”
Jack finds himself feeling the same way, but instead of looking back on what he missed out on, he is looking forward to his last homecoming week.
“I wish I had gone to more games and dances, I missed out on the homecomings after freshman year because the first one was ruined for me, but this year I’m motivated to join in more,” he said.
But seniors aren’t the only ones who aren’t feeling the mania this week, when talking to Noah Burroughs,a sophomore, he reveals that he hasn’t been feeling the spirit.
“I don’t tend to have a lot of school spirit, considering I’m not a huge fan of school in general. But this year I’m trying to get into it more, I’m hoping to maybe start cheer leading at some point,” he said
And this motivation may be from his friend, Aidyn Walker (10), who tends to feel the spirit a bit more.
“I feel like I have at least a little bit of school spirit, I go to the games and dances but that’s more to hang out with my friends. I still have a lot of fun at them though,” he said.
But one thing that these friends can agree on is that they aren’t huge fans of the themes this year.
“I’m not a huge fan of Jersey vs. Jersey Shore, it’s a cool idea but not a lot of people are going to participate with the funnier option which is a bit boring,” said Aidyn.
Noah agrees with the 2022 theme dislike, finding his dislike towards this year’s Thursday theme.
“Dress like a dad day is kind of cheesy, but making it specific to famous dads makes it a bit harder than it needs to be since some people won’t have outfits coordinating to that,” he said.
But fear not, I along with some other Muskies can offer some alternatives for you if you’re not going to the game and/or dance!
Here are some alternatives for these events:
See a movie
Hang out with friends
Chill with your family
Go out to eat
Play video games
Writing, reading, art
Shopping
Baking/cooking
