With the evolution of technology we are able to capture every moment of our lives as we wish. Most of us post it on social media to share with the world.

TikTok is estimated to have 732 million active users every month. With this many people, things like trends are bound to happen. TikTok has made trends trendy. These trends can bounce from a dance to telling a family member their favorite celebrity is dead for a crazy reaction.

Having so many active users certain trends are able to make more of an impression than others. 2022 had many trends, some were funny and some heartfelt, while others were questionable to say the least.

These are some of the most memorable TikTok trends of 2022.

The Tortilla Challenge

This challenge was a funny game to play with your friends. Both of you have a mouth full of water and simultaneously slap each other in the face with the tortillas till someone laughs, spitting water everywhere. The goal was to keep the water in your mouth longer than your opponent.

However, TikTok flagged many videos with a warning, “Participating in this activity could result in you or others getting hurt.”

2. The Griddy and Getting Sturdy

These dance trends are ones that have stuck around for awhile. Mostly because of how versatile they can be. If you scroll for more than just a few minutes you're more than likely to see these dances being used over various sounds, not necessarily under one particular sound.

3. How did I end up here?

This trend consists of sharing things that your younger self wouldn't approve of or would be scared of. This trend is meant to show how much life can change your perspective and things can’t always be the way you pictured. This trend was used in both sad and happy ways, making it another versatile trend.

4. Trisha Paytas Birthing the Queen

After we heard the news of Queen Elizabeth passing and that Trisha Paytas was in labor, that could only mean one thing: Trisha is birthing the reincarnation of the Queen. We all ran to social media to post memes like “The Queen waking up in a Hospital in L.A”.

However, Trisha was just still in labor while the Queen passed. She went to social media saying in fact was still pregnant and didn’t birth the reincarnation of Queen Elizabeth. Trisha gave birth on September 14, naming her baby Malibu Barbie Paytas-Hacmon

5. True Crime

True crime videos grew an insane amount of popularity on TikTok. With the release of the Netflix show “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” in the fall, many became more interested in serial killers.

Although it wasn’t very serious at first, many people began saying they were fans of Dahmer and many like him. Jeffery Dahmer fan edits and accounts were circulating saying Dahmer and killers like him are just misunderstood. They began to romanticize killers like Dahmer. Many people took it as far as to also dress up as him for their halloween costume

6. Double it and give it to the next person.

This trend was people offering as little as $1 to strangers on the street, then asking “Take it or double it and give it to the next person?”. Not many people take just the $1, however doubling it up till it’s to the thousands. Many creators who did this trend ended up giving aways hundreds of dollars for the trend.

One reason as to why TikTok is so popular is the never ending list of trends and fresh content. It seems like every week there could be a new dance or joke that allows another trend to start. Let’s hope this year no one dresses up as a serial killer or chokes on water while getting slapped in the face with a tortilla.
