Some may say that being compared to a panda means that you’re lazy and slow-moving. But in the case of Simon, it means something a bit different. According to millersguild.com, pandas are associated with things like appreciation, strength, and the enjoyment of life. And in the case of this staff member, the same could be said for him.
A hard worker, Simon is very dedicated to his job at Panda Express, as he was one of the last sixteen-year-olds that they had hired, so he’s got some competition. But he’s made his mark, and he enjoys his job.
“My favorite thing about Panda Express is probably… making the food. I enjoy just making the food. It’s a lot different than other fast food. I worked at Dairy Queen and we pre-made everything. But at Panda, we make everything fresh. It’s also really clean which is nice,” said Simon.
But work isn’t all he’s about (which you might be surprised by), he’s also a fan of some things related to school. When asked about his favorite subjects in school, he tends to find his heart in the math hallway.
“Definitely math, I’m pretty good at math. I like the challenge of a good problem, and the feeling of accomplishment when I’m done with the solving process,” said Simon.
Math isn’t the only area he enjoys, when asked about what his favorite school experience, he fondly remembers his times in Mrs. Rauenbuehler’s classroom.
“I had Rauenbuehler for English, as well as Journalism of course, and every class I’ve had here has always been really interesting and enjoyable so I would have to say that my favorite experiences are in her room,” said Simon.
When asked about Journalism as a separate subject, as to why he decided on Journalism as a class, he revealed the decision wasn’t quite his own.
“Last year I was kinda just put into it, and then I was like ‘okay this is interesting I kinda want to do this next year and I talked to Mrs. Rauenbuehler about it. Originally I wanted to do the yearbook but she said my writing was pretty good so to further better my writing ability I decided to join this class,” he said.
So while his favorite pick would be math, it’s undeniable that he has a lot of potential for this newspaper.
This junior isn’t all about his work and school, he actually has some pretty big plans for after he graduates, especially in the traveling department.
“I want to go to Athens, Greece, see what it’s like across the pond.”
But his plans don’t stop just outside of the North American continent, he also has plans for things close to home.
“Hawaii, really just anywhere in Hawaii. I find the landscape interesting and I’d like to see it sometime. I also want to see Niagara Falls, but on the Canadaian side just to get out of the US for a change,” said Simon.
Interesting indeed, while sometimes he may be a man of few words his stories will definitely be worth a read, so make sure to be looking out for his stuff in the upcoming publications.
