ELEMENTARY PRODUCTIONS

Students learned about the importance of reading nonfiction texts and also understanding the use of text features to demonstrate reading comprehension.

They read, brainstormed ideas and chose a topic to create their own nonfiction book.

They were also able to use nonfiction text features learned in class such as: table of contents, headings, captions, glossary and different types of print and their use.

Each student researched about their chosen topic in different physical and digital sources, such as books and Kiddle.

For the first time, they were required to use keyboarding skills, and to design tools to make their books unique. It was FUN!

This is a nonfiction piece of writing about a Native American ethnic group.

Students wrote an informative text about "The Inuit", and enriched the topic with significant details, examples and facts.

Students worked in groups and portrayed related information in paragraphs, using www.bookcreator.com to design their books independently.

The Fifth graders chose a significant moment in their their life, and then followed thoroughly all the stages of the writing process, to successfully create their personal narrative project.

Next, they were challenged to integrate figurative language to their writing piece, such as: hyperboles, similes, metaphors and personifications and to add complex vocabulary to show specific ideas.

Next, they proceeded to write, revise, edit and proofread their production.

The students peer edited and used typewriting skills to give their book a format in the Book Creator App, added pictures and illustrations to their story and then successfully published their narratives.

Sixth-grade students wrote a realistic fiction story.

Their setting was the desert, however, they had the freedom to creatively develop their own story plot.

“We are all storytellers. We all live in a network of stories. There isn’t a stronger connection between people than storytelling.”
